Discovering the Dimensions of Learner-centred Teaching

DESCRIPTION
This workshop explains the rationale for why educators should adopt learner-centred approaches, gives a case example of a learner-centred course and describes a continuum from teacher-centred to learner-centred on five dimensions.

LEARNING OUTCOMES 

  • Explain the concepts on transforming teaching to be more learner-centred
    – Introduction
    – Understanding the Rubrics
    – Tools for facilitating change and assessment.
  • Illustrate the Five Dimensions of Learner-Centred Teaching based on
    (i) the function of content;
    (ii) the role of the educator;
    (iii) the responsibility for learning;
    (iv) the purpose and processes of assessment; and
    (v) the balance of power.

TRAINER PROFILE

AMUTHA

Amutha has 27 years of experiences in higher education. She passionately grew her interest in adult learning and continuously strives to improve pedagogical practices, assessment and learning design through deep reflection and evident-based learning. Her area of expertise in pedagogical training is teaching and learning methods and strategies, curriculum design and development, assessment rubric and evaluation instrument and learning system design.
